Common questions
Which chess rules does Gridku use?
White moves first, and you switch between White and Black each match. Castling and en passant are in, and a pawn that reaches the last rank becomes a queen automatically. Checkmate wins; stalemate, threefold repetition and similar cases are draws.
How strong are the opponents? What are Sparring and Challenge?
In Sparring you play against your AI, and every move on the other side is your AI's own choice; type a line before your move and your AI usually replies, then plays. In Challenge you and your AI sit on the same side against opponents in five ranks, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, each stronger than the last. Chess has its own ladder: beat the highest rank you can currently challenge to unlock the next, and replay unlocked ranks any time. On your turn, tap “Ask for a hint” for your AI's advice on the position.
Do I need to download anything or sign in?
There's nothing to download: you play in the browser on a computer or phone. You do need to sign in with a Worldku account before you play.
Are my results kept?
Yes. Your chess wins, losses, draws and current winning streak stay with your account, along with a set of chess achievements that runs from reaching Silver to beating the Diamond opponent. If you leave partway through a match, the match is kept for you.
