Common questions
Which backgammon rules does Gridku use? Is there a doubling cube?
Each side has 15 checkers, and the first to bear off all of theirs wins, so there are no draws. You and your opponent take turns going first, match by match, and the dice roll automatically; with doubles you can use that number up to four times. There's no doubling cube.
How strong are the opponents? What are the ways to play?
There are two. In Sparring your AI sits across the board and makes every move on that side, and you can type a line before your move. In Challenge your AI sits beside you against five ranks of opponents, Bronze to Diamond, each stronger than the last; backgammon has its own ladder, and beating the highest rank you can currently challenge unlocks the next. On your turn, tap “Ask for a hint” for your AI's advice on the position.
Do I need to download anything or sign in?
There's nothing to download: you play in the browser on a computer or phone. You do need to sign in with a Worldku account before you play.
Can I leave in the middle of a match?
Yes. There's no clock, and if you leave partway through, the match is kept for you. Your backgammon wins, losses and current winning streak stay with your account, along with a set of backgammon achievements from reaching Silver to beating the Diamond opponent.
